Teen Book Group (Gr. 7 and up)
Graphic Classics: Edgar Allan Poe & Selections from Poe's Short Stories/Poems. Teens will discuss a selection of Poe's short stories/poems and their use in the new format of the graphic novel. Teens will be asked to come to the meeting with artwork or a poem reflecting their reading of Poe.

Teen Craft Masque of the Red Death Mask-Making
Create a beautiful or terrifying mask to wear to our Masque of the Red Death Costume Party! We will listen to the audiobook of "The Masque of the Red Death"(and "Hop-Frog", if there is time) while we work to be properly inspired. All materials will be provided. This program is for grades 6-12.

Edgar Allen Poe: His Works and His Future in Boston
Though he spent most of his years outside of Massachusetts, Edgar Allan Poe was in fact born in Boston and returned to the city of his birth for key moments throughout his life. This presentation will be divided into two sections. First, it will explore Poe’s life and a few of his works through historical, cultural, and biographical lenses. Second, it will discuss current efforts to honor Poe in his birthplace of Boston. Presented by Katherine Kim Wings of Knowledge Lecture Series.

Sequential Poe
Teens can check out and read a volume of 'Graphic Classics: Edgar Allan Poe.' 'The collection, illustrated in styles ranging from the outright comedic to the brooding, wisely increases the density of the words as it progresses, drawing potentially reluctant readers more deeply into the stories.' (Booklist) . After discussing the stories, we'll write our own horror and dectective stories to create our own graphic novels.

Key Note: Word of Mouth Considers Poe
NH Public Radio program Word of Mouth with Virginia Prescott will consider Poe’s relevance to today’s audience using sound, readings and guests. This will be a special Big Read episode of the mid-day program which broadcasts to the entire state of New Hampshire. The program will be re-broadcast at 9pm.

Lizzie Borden Took an Axe... Or Did She?
Edgar Allan Poe wrote some of the first murder mystery stories ever published, sixty years before Lizzie Borden's case electrified the nation. In 1892 Lizzie Borden, a 32 year old single woman, was officially charged with the murder of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts. The events that followed the murder would stir the curiosity of people across the nation. After four official criminal proceedings, Lizzie Borden was acquitted of the murder. The case is a mystery that has inspired documentaries, television movies, plays, musicals, poems, a scholarly journal, and law school case studies. This presentation is designed to review the facts and explore evidence that some suggest point to Lizzie’s guilt and others say exonerate her.
